THE West Wicklow Chamber Festival presents two nights of free events taking place in The Avon, Blessington as part of Culture Night events taking place on Friday, September 23.
iachra Garvey, founder and Artistic Director said: “We are very excited to announce that the West Wicklow Chamber Festival will be presenting two fantastic and free events on Culture Night, in partnership with Wicklow County Council.
“Join us in the stunning setting of The Avon, Blessington from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for a feast of party-fuelled rhythmic virtuosity with Bangers & Crash Duo, Caitríona Frost and Paddy Nolan, who are two of Ireland’s most accomplished percussionists. Later in the evening, at 8.30 p.m., the Yurodny Ensemble will treat us to an energising musical melting pot of new interpretations of traditional music from around the world.
“With great music, free entry, a weather-proof marquee, food trucks, a bar and a killer view of the Blessington lakes, don’t miss us at The Avon this Culture Night.”
The Bangers & Crash Duo event is the perfect way to get to know the different instruments that make up the percussion family including marimba, vibraphone, drums, and tambourines. The concert will include music by Elliot Cole, Philip Glass and Casey Cangelosi as well as an original composition from Caitríona based on techniques normally found in traditional Irish music.
Founded in 2007 by saxophonist and composer Nick Roth, the Yurodny Ensemble perform contemporary interpretations of traditional music from around the world alongside new work by composers inspired by these traditions.
