Suit up for a season of fun in the sun

The Oscars are long over, as are the Grammys, the Tonys and the Met Gala — but there’s another big-deal production in front of us: swimsuit season.

We could all use a little inspiration to get ready to pull on a suit and hit the pool or beach, and so it’s for that reason that I now officially introduce (drumroll, please): the Swimmy Awards.

The Swimmies are, as you’d imagine, to celebrate the best bathing suits of this season, to get you revved up to grab one up, pull it on, and — in the spirit of body positivity — don’t worry about a thing, because there are gorgeous designs in all shapes and sizes. Once you’ve found yours, just go out there and have fun. Frolic. Sunbathe (with SPF, of course). Down cocktails at the pool. And maybe even swim a little.

And the winners are …

Best Nautical Performance in the Demure Category: The Tie Oasis ($125 on summersalt.com). Stripey in all the right ways, flattering in all the right places (with adjustable tie straps and built-in soft cups), and in the kind of pretty blues that make us all want to jump in the water.

Best Nautical Performance in the Glam Category: The Ally Striped Bikini Top & Bikini Bottom ($210 for the top; $180 for the bottom on bloomingdales.com). Conjured up by designer Alexandra Miro, the deep V-neck number sports sassy decorative gold-tone buttons and high-contrast stripes. Hope you’ve got the yacht ready for this one.

Best Imitation of a Sunset: The Cross Strap Swimsuit ($120 on bodenusa.com) in Multi Abstract Swirl is a statement piece, without question. Its Pucci-esque pattern turns heads, while its crossover back creates a keyhole shape that’s oh-so sharp. Oh, and by the way — they’re made from recycled materials. Which is pretty awesome.

Best L.B.S. (Little Black Swimsuit): Tory Burch’s One-shoulder One Piece Swimsuit ($198 on toryburch.com) isn’t messing around with its side cut-outs, complete with supportive coverage. The Italian, stretch-friendly Eurojersey material with SPF 50 doesn’t hurt, either.

Best Romantic Lead Performance: The Malai Aria Ruffled One-Piece Swimsuit ($104.30 on anthropologie.com) is straight-up hot princess-meets-angel. Colombian designer Amalia Abad created it, and did so with a vision for adventure-seeking women. Mission accomplished.
