Seasick Steve returning to Cork for Cyprus Avenue gig

VETERAN American blues singer Seasick Steve will return to Cork for the first time a decade when he plays an eagerly anticipated gig at Cyprus Avenue on Tuesday, July 19.

he 71-year-old (real name Steve Wold) has come a long way in the 15-years since he burst into public consciousness with his raw, powerful and deeply emotional style of blues.

Following a breakthrough performance on Jools Holland’s 2006 ‘Hootenanny’ show, he became an overnight household name and has since released 11 albums with sales in excess of one million copies.

His astonishing and engaging live performances that have turned Steve and long-time drummer Dan Magnusson (who will be with Steve for his Cork gig) into such a powerful force both on record and live, selling out venues all over the world in the process.

Steve had a busy 2021, releasing two albums, the rocking ‘Love & Peace’ and the acoustic ‘Blues in Mono’, while also managing, playing festivals including the Isle of Wight and touring his intimate solo show to packed venues right across the UK.

Despite his busy schedule, Steve said he is having the time of his life, with the energy of putting new songs on record and the electricity of playing live continuing to drive him forward and win him new fans wherever the road takes him.

Speaking about his live shows Steve said “I live in the world of going out and rocking.”

“We do our best, every night. If someone has taken the trouble to spend their money to come and see us play, then we owe them to deliver. They’re my boss,” he said.

“We rock. That’s what we do. When I see a club full of people, or a field full of people, they’re just with us and ready to get down. We love it, and we love them,” he added.

Tickets for Seasick Steve at Cyprus Avenue, priced at €38.82 (including booking fee)
