Winnie the Pooh has apparently gone to the dark side and is leaving his Disney persona in the dust.

The honey-loving Canadian-born bruin is now starring in an upcoming horror movie called Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. A turnaround from his typical absent-minded antics.

What’s changed is that early Pooh adventures penned by A.A. Milne have entered the public domain after the copyright — previously owned by Disney — has lapsed.

Now, producers have recast the bear as a serial killer who slices and dices his victims for laughs. According to Gizmondo, details on Pooh’s slasher star turn are scarce.

Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who also co-wrote and produced the film, says Pooh (Craig David-Dowsett) and Piglet (Chris Cordell) will be “going on a rampage” after being abandoned by a college-bound Christopher Robin.

“Because they’ve had to fend for themselves, they become quite feral,” he told Variety. “They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”

The film is being produced by British-based Jagged Edge (The Legend of Jack & Jill and The Curse of Humpty Dumpty).

Waterfield said he tried to be “extremely careful” with his film to avoid hitting a Disney corporate minefield.

But don’t expect the full cast from the Hundred Acre Wood. Pals like Tigger remain covered by copyright and are skipping the new Pooh.

The film has a distributor but no release date.
