Live show on Keith Hernandez Day

Mets podcast

No Met will wear No. 17 again.

Saturday marked a special day at Citi Field for the Mets franchise. Keith Hernandez got his number retired in a beautiful, emotional pregame ceremony. It was an honor that was long overdue. It happened in front of a sold-out crowd in Queens on an absolutely perfect summer day. The ending? A Mets walk-off win. Oh yeah, the first Mets walk-off win on an error in the 10th inning since…Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

To talk about Hernandez’s No. 17 getting retired, we bring you a special live episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast that Nelson Figueroa and I hosted from EBBS Brewing Co. outside Citi Field.

‘Amazin’ But True’ Live Podcast at EBBS Brewing Co. with Jake & Figgie:

  • KEITH HERNANDEZ DAY: Discussing what Keith meant to the Mets franchise and how he turned them around in 1984. The team was a winner every year from 1984-89 with him there. He brought a swagger to that team. The 1986 Mets were not afraid of anyone. This was a long deserving honor to get his No. 17 into the rafters at Citi Field.
  • NEXT NUMBER RETIRED: David Wright? Doc Gooden? Darryl Strawberry?
  • FAN TRIVIA: We give fans at EBBS Keith-themed trivia questions.
  • TRADE DEADLINE: Who will the Mets go after at the trade deadline?
