Joker sequel: Lady Gaga in talks to star as Harley Quinn in Folie à Deux


A new DC star is born.

Rumours are swirling that Lady Gaga is in early negotiations to join Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker sequel.

Gaga will take on the role of Harley Quinn, which Aussie Margot Robbie has previously played, according to The Hollywood Reporter,

Last week director Todd Phillips announced the title for the second movie, Joker: Folie à Deux. He also shared the script’s cover as well as an image of Phoenix reading it, confirming his return.

Folie à Deux refers to shared madness.

Details for the sequel are scarce at the minute, so it’s unclear whether Gaga would also contribute any music to the project, but it’s a safe bet that it’s at least on the table.

The first Joker movie, which was released in 2019, was an absolute smash for DC.

The film made $1 billion at the box office and landed 12 Oscar nominations and two wins. Phoenix won best actor for his performance as Joker, aka Arthur Fleck.

Gaga has previously worked with Phillips, when he was one of the producers of her 2018 movie A Star Is Born, which earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress — and an Oscar win for original song.
