Stormers coach John Dobson believes Saturday’s United Rugby Championship (URC) final against the Bulls will feel like a Test match.

The two South African sides managed to turn their seasons around to dominate the latter half of the inaugural tournament, earning well-deserved places in the trophy decider at the Cape Town Stadium this weekend.

Speaking to KFM, Dobson revealed that there will be some extra niggle in the game as Warrick Gelant and Manie Libbok didn’t have much success during their time at the Bulls, while Damian Willemse also had some issues around a potential contract with the Pretoria franchise.

“It’s going to be blood and guts,” John Dobson told the radio station.

“It’s going to be like a Test match, a game that will be played with a lot of emotion. Warrick didn’t really make it at the Bulls, Manie didn’t make it at the Bulls and there was an issue between Damian and the Bulls. I don’t think there will be any shortage of emotion in this game.

“I would love to beat Jake, we would love to beat the Bulls.”

While happy with the underdog tag going into the final, Dobson reminded fans what long-odds the Stormers were up against at the start of the URC back in October last year.

“The Stormers were complete write-offs,” said Dobson.

“Before the competition started, we were 100/1 to win it and, after the first week, we were 88/1 and the Bulls were 14/1.”
