POPULAR Irish country singer/songwriter Gerry Guthrie and his band will play a gig amid the intimate surroundings of the Glen Theatre in Banteer this coming Sunday evening (September 11) at 8.30pm.
rior to putting together his own band five years ago, the Ballina native played guitar with several popular Irish bands as well as pursuing a successful solo career, mainly around Connaught.
Since forming the band they have toured extensively across Ireland, with his success in both England and Scotland also turning him into a household name on the UK country scene.
Along the way he has received numerous prestigious accolades including Sunday World Music ‘Best Vocal Performance’ and ‘Best Country Musician’ awards and in 2015 was presented with the ‘Performer Of The Year Award’ at the Irish Farmers Journal awards night.
To date Guthrie has released five studio albums among them the 2016 release ‘A New Moon Over My Shoulder’, a true authentic ‘country album’ in every sense of the word.
The 12 tracks on the album are all notable country songs and covers, some of which were originally recorded by major American country artists including Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard and Marty Robbins.
He has also released a number of singles including ‘The Lucky Horseshoe’ written especially for him by his manager/songwriter Henry McMahon, ‘Second Hand Heart’ an original song by Derry-based singer songwriter Peter McKeever and his most recent single release ‘The Doghouse’.
