Countless actors have portrayed Marilyn Monroe over the years and Ana de Armas is the latest to transform into the iconic actor in Netflix’s Blonde.
The first trailer for the biopic, set for release on the streaming platform on September 23 – from New Zealand director Andrew Dominik, has dropped and reignited our fascination with Monroe’s life both on and off the screen.
Dominik’s adaptation of the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, has already been branded as controversial.
Best known for his work on The Assassination of Jesse James, Dominik’s film is said to include a rape scene and is rated R.
“There’s something in it to offend everyone,” Dominik previously said.
“If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office.
“It’s not like depictions of happy sexuality. It’s depictions of situations that are ambiguous. And Americans are really strange when it comes to sexual behaviour, don’t you think? I don’t know why. They make more porn than anyone else in the world.”
